I often get asked my opinion on having children in a bridal party. Personally, I love to see a little boy and/or girl dressed up in some seriously adorable outfits. As a planner it can be a logistical nightmare. Here are my top 3 tips for having children in a bridal party.
1. Be realistic. How old is the child going to be on your wedding day. Can he or she walk, crawl, run or run really fast? This is key to determining the best way to make it work without a temper tantrum. If the child is too fussy or unable to walk down the aisle, consider having another member of the bridal party assist them down the aisle. This could look like carrying them or pulling them in a buggy. Last year I had one wedding where theparents of the groom held the hands of their two grandchildren down the aisle. The photo's of that moment were spot on.
2. If the child has a tendency to get nervous around people they aren't familiar with, perhaps consider having he or she pose in photos as an honorary member of the bridal party. This way they still make it in all the photos without the fuss down the aisle.
3. Pick an outfit that the child is comfortable in and if possible loves to wear. No one wants to wear a dress that's itchy or a tie that's just too tight!
Happy Planning!
